The Fomp! rapier EXISTS!

Yes, it’s a real thing in the physical world, not just in design plans and documents, but as a real object with the materials I’ve settled on.

Thanks to very helpful feedback from the sabre prototypes, this is very close to what will be seen in the actual production line model. There are a few things I want to tweak, like seeing if I can slim the padding a tad more since the air drag is much more noticeable with this longer blade compared to the shorter sabre. The pommel is made to be in proportion to the overall larger dimensions of a foam sword compared to a steel one, and while it doesn’t kill the functionality it would be nice to slim that one too so it plays better with the wrist.

The specs have been finalized, and any further modification will only affect a few grams of weight.

Weight: 840 g

Length: 104 cm blade, 6 cm handle, 4-4,5 cm pommel

Point of balance: 15 cm above the cross, 9 cm above the cup

The weight is low, but with the air drag it behaves closer to my 1 kg rapier by Destrezania.

I will keep working making the last modifications and setting up shop, but I’m hoping to have these for sale before summer is over. Hope is good to have as a motivator!

P.S.

Are you going to the Swedish HEMA nationals next week, June 30 to July 2 in UmeĆ„? If then, you’ll have a chance to try these out! Hope to see you there.
